"A whole week of chess is too much; why aren't there any weekend tournaments in the summer?" Well now there is - the Nokia Summer Tournament breaks the two-month weekend chess drought.

Registration
Registration is done via the Google Forms or, if necessary, by contacting Risto Eerikäinen (040 829 5131 or risto.otso(at)gmail.com).
The entry fee is €40 for adults and €25 for juniors (born 2006 or later). The fee includes a weekend coffee pass (or an equivalent samll benefit from the venue café for those who do not drink coffee).
We prefer electronic payments. Both bank transfer and MobilePay are accepted. Cash payment is possible on site if necessary.

Official registration is open until Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 23:59. Registrations after this deadline or on site will incur a late registration fee of €5.
A valid 2026 chess competition licence (or one-time licence) is required in accordance with standard regulations for players who have played at least 11 rated games.
Venue
The tournament will be held in central Nokia, on the second floor of a shopping centre next to Pirkkalaistori, in the fully accessible premises of Nokia branch of the Finnish Red Cross.

Due to the low number of participants, the tournament will be held at CC Nokia’s regular club venue near Nokia city centre (Rounionkatu 52), which hosts the club evenings every week. The address is Rounionkatu 52.

Schedule
Participation must be confirmed on site on Saturday, July 4, between 10:00–10:30. If you have paid the entry fee in advance by Friday, you can confirm your participation by calling 040 829 5131 on Saturday morning while on your way.
If the fee has not been paid in advance, it must be paid on site by 10:30 (MobilePay or cash).

Playing System
The tournament will be played in rating groups of approximately 12 players. Time control is 90 minutes + 30 seconds per move.
Pairings are made using Swiss-Manager. Results will be published on chess-results.com and other chess result platforms. Results will be submitted for both Finnish rating (SELO) and FIDE rating calculation.
Prizes
Small cash prizes will be awarded to the best player or the top two in each rating group. Prizes will total N% of the entry fees collected, where N is the number of participants (estimated 30–50%).
The total prize fund will be 30% of the entry fees collected, despite the low number of participants.
Travel & Arrival
These travel instructions were updated on 30 June due to the venue change.
Parking near the venue is free on weekends. Usually, there is space across the street on Rounionkatu.
The bus and railway stations are located about 500 metres from the venue. Buses arriving in and leaving from Nokia stop there. See detailed connections on the Nysse route planner.
Local trains and long-distance trains stop at the Nokia railway stations. Please notice that local trains between Nokia and Tampere recently began to run every hour on weekends.
